In Bali, she was urged to meet a shaman in the hills. He was Shunyata, the green-eyed Native American teacher she dreamt of in childhood, and he initiated her as Uma Kalika into the terrifying and rapturous world of extreme polarity. They practiced Yoga Tantra as a means to recondition the body to walk between worlds without literally blowing out the mind and nervous system. She lived with him in a jungle hermitage without electricity or modern conveniences for 6 years, and was in daily service to him for 14. Upon his request, she began teaching internationally in 1990.
In Los Angeles, Umaa gained context for her mystical experiences by investigating both the derivatives of Classical Yoga and the science of Kundalini Tantra Yoga. She graduated as an Ayurvedic practitoner from the Ayurvedic Institute of America and pursued greater understanding of the synergy of Tantra, Yoga and Ayurveda under the mentorship of tantric and siddha alchemists.
In 2007, Umaa returned to Ubud, Bali where she was to conceive and co-found KUSH, the Ayurvedic Rejuvenation Center at The Yoga Barn.
In 2011, She founded S.A.T.Y.A. The Synergistic Alignment of Tantra, Yoga and Ayurveda, a vehicle for intensives that runs in direct response to screened student application.
